Some important additions are made to the list of entries for the Farmers' Auctioneering Company's sale on the 20th inst. We are requested to announce that the Sunday School in connection with St. John's Church will reopen on Sunday next, 11th February, at 9.45 a.m., when all children are requested to be present. The Katikati A. and P. Assocition will hold its fifth Annual Show on Thursday, March 15th. Entries will close on March 6th with Mr R. M. Bradford, from whom schedules may be obtained. Close upon a thousand head of cattle will be yarded at the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Co's sale in the Te Puke yards on Monday next. A pleasing little ceremony took place at Messrs Bostcck and Vercoe's garage last evening, when Mr P. Capon, who has acted as conductor of the local Brass Band eince its inception, was presented by his fellow members with a silver-mounted conductor's baton, suitably inscribed, as a mark of esteem and appreciation, Mr T, E. Palmer, a member of the Town Board, made the presentation, and, in so doing, referred to the trouble-that Mr Capon had taken and the energy he had displayed in fringing the band up to its present state of efficiency. He also alludeti to the Board as being anxious to further the interests of the Band, and explained its views in regard to the financing of the latter body. The Labour Department is taking action against the. Blackball miners who went on strike recently. The miners struck because the company refused their demand to pay bin boys for time lost since Christmas, although the the previous practice had been to. pay them only for time worked.

Mrs. T. E. Maimer, Mrs Ford, and Mrs Hobbs, who were among the local ladies who forwarded Dominion gifts.to.the front, have each received an acknowledgment of the receipt of their parcels. Strange to say, Mrs Palmer's gift was received by an ex-Te Puke boy, a soldier named Walden, who formerly resided on, No. 2 road. Three acknowledgments have also been received of gifts sent as a result of St. John's Anzac Day collection.

AmapnamedMcßae, employed by Mr J. . Currie, tailor, attempted to commij; suicide on Thursday morning by cutting his throat with' a razor. He was found by a fellow-employee at 7 o'clock on the morning in question lying outside the latter's bach with a nasty gash in the throat. The services of Br MacParlane were requisitioned, and the wound, which was not considered serious, was dressed. Later in the day the man was taken through to Rotorua by Constable Staiikpoole. / ,
