ATTEMPT TO RECOVER THE BODIES ABANDONED. A DIVER DROWNED. ..,,. ..Ottawa,'. June 22. The efforts to recover the bodies from the hull of the Empress of Ireland; have cost .the life of a diver named Cossabpom. After Cossaboom had been down for thirty/minutes the men on the surface signalled, and receiving ,no answer, another ,di vet* went down, and found Cossaboom lying across the life-line. He died after coming to the surface.
All attempts to recover the eight hundred bodies entombed in the sunken hull of the Empress of Ireland have been abandoned following a Conference between Commander Forbes and the divers of the man-of-war Essex at the scene of the wreck, owing to the death of Cossaboom from a fall off the of the lost vessel.; This decision of the CanadianPacific Railway Co. will not affect the operations 6f the company in endeavouring to salvage the ship, but it is thought they will have to give up diving operations.
