A MOST successful dance under the auspices of the Public Service Association was held in the Town Hall Concert Chamber on Wednesday, August 18th, and much credit is due to the Committee, Misses Kingsford, O'Keefe, L. Rig-, by and Kalaugher, for the capable manner in which everything was managed. The supper room was artistically decorated with wattle. and greenery.

Among those present were: Mesdames Greville, wearing black chiffon taffeta. Kalaugher, in a black satin frock. O'Keefe, black charmeuse. Miss Kingsford, white lace over blue satin. Miss Daphne Grey, ivho is shortly to be married to Mr. Cecil Eaton, was the guest of honour at a jolly little gift afternoon tea given by Mrs. D. Anderson, at "Crossleigh," Onehunga, on Saturday afternoon last. Music and chatter passed the time very quickly away. Miss Alice Goodwin and Miss A. Whitson giving much pleasure with their items, and great fun was caused by the opening of the parcels. The rooms had been prettily decorated with spring flowers in tones of violet and gold.

The engagement is announced of Miss Ailsa Brown, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Brown, St. Stephen's Avenue, Parnell, to Lieut. R. D. Oliver, D.5.0., R.N., Kelso, Roxburgshire, Scotland

The weather being ideal, quite a number of players and interested spectators were at Middlemore last Tuesday to witness the finals of the Auckland Ladies' Provincial Tournament, and a very enjoyable time was spent. At the conclusion of the matches, tea was dispensed in the club rooms, and the President, Miss Horton, presented the prizes. Miss M. Pay ton won the Senior Open Championship, with Miss M. Alison as runner-up.

In the Junior Section, Mrs. S. A. Smith was the winner, and Miss P. Macfarlane the runner-up. Senior medals were awarded to Mrs. Hughes, Miss K. Holmes, and Junior medals to Miss P. Macfarlane. Bogey" prizes were won by Miss Holmes, Miss Marshall, Mrs. Dargaville, and Miss P. Baird. Putting prizes to Miss Lever, Mrs. Dargaville, Miss Morton, and Mrs. Carl Prime.

Amongst those present were Mrs. Horton, Mrs. Hodges, Mrs. Haines, Mrs. Dargaville, Mrs. G. Bloomfield, Mrs. Humphrey Clark, Mrs. Howard Richmond," Mrs. Prime, Mrs. Louisson, and the Misses Holmes, Upfill, Martin, Upton, Pay ton, Macfarlane, Alison, Ridings, and Kenderdine.

Mrs. J. W. Clifford, Victoria Ay., Remuera, gave a delightful little dance on Wednesday evening last. The rooms were daintily decorated with spring flowers. The drawing room was used for dancing.

Mrs. Clifford received her guests wearing elegant grey charmeuse. Miss M. Clifford wore a becoming frock of lemon satin. Amongst the guests were: Miss M. Gibbons (Napier), in blue charmeuse. Miss M. Noakes, black satin. Miss Heather, white satin and lace. Miss Heather Bews, pink charmeuse. Miss Otway, white taffeta. Miss Delepine, white satin. Miss Robertson, soft pink taffeta. Miss L. Nolan, vieux rose satin. Miss F. Rathbone, black net. Miss N. Frater, black charmeuse. Miss P. Macfarlane, black and flame. Miss Nicholson, pale blue georgette.

The Pantomime children have won the hearts of all who have come in contact with them, and during their stay in Auckland have been much entertained. Mr. Esmond Kohn gave them a delightful afternoon at Parnell Park. Mr. M. Carr, of Wellington, gave a luncheon in their honour at the Grand Hotel. Mr. Farrell had an afternoon at his residence, and Mr. Payne also entertained them at his studio, Wellesley Street.

Competitions were held, and the lucky little ones received very handsome prizes. In return the children gave an afternoon at His Majesty's Theatre, and presented a programme of splendid items, which were thoroughly enjoyed by their guests, especially those which mimiced their seniors. Miss Pearl Cocking and Miss Olga Lyons, two of the children, organised and arranged the whole affair, and it reflects much credit on them and on their wellknown teacher, Miss Minnie Everitt.

Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Macfarlane, of "Roslyn," Gillies' Avenue, have returned from their trip to the Islands. Mr. and Mrs. Acton Adams were amongst the passengers who returned by the Niagara. Mr. and Mrs. Guy Williams, accompanied by Mrs. Hope Lewis, returned by the Niagara after an enjoyable holiday in Australia. Mr. and Mrs. Melville Gudgeon, of Gisborne, are at present on a visit to Auckland. Miss Daphne Knight is proceeding to America by the Niagara. Mrs. W. Speight is leaving by the Riverina to visit her daughter, Mrs Seth Smith, in Sydney.

Mrs. J. Neill, of "Balgray," Norman's HiH/ Onehunga, gave a charming little dance in honour of the birthday of Mias. Joan Neill. Dancing took place in the drawing room, which was prettily decorated for the occasion. Supper was laid in the dining room, the tables being bright with crimson anemones and greenery; and lighted with shaded crimson candles in silver stands.

Mrs. Neill received the guests ■weariug a handsome black silk. Miss Joan Neill wore white crepe de chine, and Miss Jessie Neill, ivory silk. Amongst the guests were Mrs. Gibbons, in black silk. Mrs. ; H. Johnston, black chiffon velvet. Miss H. Browne, cream crepe de 'chine. Miss E. Neill, tangerine charmeuse.

Miss D. Noakes, pale pink georgette. Miss S. Wynyard, ivory net. Miss A. Wynyard, pink crepe de chine. Miss Muriel White, white net over silk. Miss Nellie Johnstone, pale pink net. Miss E. Colbv, very dainty white net with satin ribbon. Miss B. Jenkins, lemon net. Miss D. Phillips, pale blue crepe de chine. Gentlemen present were Messrs. Wynyard, Noakes, Senior, Winter, Shroff, Grant, Ford, Rjoss, Yon Stunner, White, Dodd, and Clime.

A most enjoyable dance was given in the New Zealand Power Boats' Club House Pavilion on Saturday, the 21st inst., by the crew of the "Banshee," being the first of a series of dances.
