BOXING.
Local boxing fans have a choice season ahead. The first event is the Clabby-Pooley contest in the Town Hall on 12th December, for a purse of £250. Preliminaries arranged include the best of local provincial amateur talent. The programme should easily provide the best fare yet dished up to the Auckland Boxing fans. The Clabby-Heeney affair drew a house totalling £650 at Hastings. Len. Robinson, feather-weight professional champion, was signed Tip with Oliver by the Te Aroha Association for 9th December. His hand has, however, become disabled, and postponement of the event is necessary for about six weeks. The newly-formed Northern Wairoa Boxing Association will hold their Inaugural Carnival on 16th January. Taumarumii Association have matched Vem and Oliver as the leading event on December 19. The N.B.A. has decided upon a new departure in staging a carnival during the 'Xma« Holidays, probably 20th December. An Australian heavyweight, Jim Tras, protege of the late Les Darcy, is already in Auckland, and has been matched with Albert Pooley. His form displayed in the club's gymnasium assures a contest seldom witnessed in New Zealand, where heavyweight events are unfortunately few and far between.
