THE tennis opening was well attended last week, although there were other attractions for Saturday afternoon. Brewis, president of the club, in his speech, wished the club every success during the coming season. Mrs. Brewis, assisted by the Misses Brewis, served, a dainty afternoon tea to all trie visitoris present. Although it was a windy afternoon, some very good form was shown by some of the players. • » * ■ The following were present: Mesdames Brewis, Sims, Bond, Storey, Maclean, T. Atkin, Parker Matthews. Misses V. Brewis, R. Brewis, D. Brewis, T. Ring, Rogers, Wilkinson, Drake, R. Ring, Roche, Bennett, Manning, Ferguson, Christie, McNicol, Gilchrist, McCaw, Fawcett, Carr, Craig, Murray, Empson, Heywood, Wilkes. © ® ® The opening of the Hamilton Bowling Club is to eventuate on Saturday next, and promises, to be a big gathering. The greens are in good order, and the gardens arc ••pretty. ;® ® ® At the recent examination for ladies in "First Aid the following were successful: Mesdames W. Kendall, A. Densem M A. « Strickett, Misses A. Hobbs, E. Vindore, Bergerson, N M. Ewan L. Ewan, V. Currie, O'Hagan, M. Hairis, A. Wor'sley. « * The lecturer for the classes was Dr. Garland, and the candidates were examined by Dr. Waddell. ® '" ® ® Last Saturday, at the Hamilton Croquet Club's lawns there was a good gathering of players Mrs. 1 M. Masters and Miss Wyatt provided the afternoon tea, which was very enjoyable. * * * A few who were present: Mesdames T. F. Jolly, E. M Masters, Piatt, Ferguson, E. Wilson A. Hyde, Stevens, English, O'Meara, Burn Totman, Stanley, J. Kanstead, Powell, T. Ranstead, Osborne, Briggs, Manning, Furze, A. Manning, Prentise, T. Dilhcar, Coombes, Smith, F. Bayly, Misses Burke, Watty, Manning, Wyatt, Cussen, Wallnut. © @> @> The returned soldiers from the Waikato Hospital were motored to "Edingthorpe," Mrs. H. Valder s home, on Thursday. The lovely garden was much admired, with the roses making such a show of colour. Billiards and games were played, and before leaving a dainty afteruoon tea was handed round. <g) ® ® The final reading for this season was given by the Shakespeare Club in St. Peter's Sunday School on Thursday evening. These readings are always well attended and enjoyed by those who go. * * * Those who took part in "The Great Adventure" were Mrs. Albert Shawn, Miss Seddon; Honaria Love, Miss Provis; Janet, Miss Brosnan; Albert Shawn, Mr. A. Miss Brosnan and Mr. Manning were particularly good in their parts, and the other members all read well. © ® ® Mrs. H. Holloway is in Auckland staying with Mrs. J. Short. ©&® " . Miss Rogers is the guest of Dr. and Mrs. Rogers, London Street. ® ® « Mrs. H*. I. Briggs (Auckland) is visiting her sisters, the Misses Jolly, Frankton Hill. ®® • ® Mrs. L. Brodie has returned home after a short visit to Auckland. ® & 9 Miss M. Gilchrist (Te Aroha) has been staying with Mrs. D. McNicol for a few days.
