THE Auckland Racing Club were again favoured with fine weather for their second day of the meeting on Wednesday, the 12th inst., and all those who journeyed forth to Ellerslie were rewarded with a most enjoyable day. The racing itself was very interesting, and several races with unusually large fields, presented an exceedingly pleasing spectacle, the verdant course making a striking background for the vivid colours of the jockeys and the sheeny coats of the noble animals. * • * The lawns and floral display, as usual, came in for much admiration, especially from those who visited Ellerslie'for the first-time. The tearooms are being enlarged, and when finished will be most spacious and up-to-date. Afternoon tea is quite a feature of the day amongst the ladies at Ellerslie. The frocking was of the same order as the first day, the changeable weather lately experienced making it advisable not to launch forth too soon in summery attire. , * * * Amongst those present were Mrs. W. Wade, Awhitu. <® <8S ® A pretty wedding took place on October 29th at Pitt Street Methodist Church, when Mr. Frederick William Albert Rimmer was married to Miss Ivy May Lavis, third eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. Lavis, of Union Street, Auckland. The ceiemony was performed .by the Rev. C." H. Laws.

The bride, who was given away by her father, looked charming in ivory crepe de chine, trimmed with soft lace. She also wore the usual veil and orange blossoms, and carried a beautiful* shower bouquet, and was attended by two bridesmaids, Miss Daisy Lavis (sister of the bride), was chief bridesmaid, who wore a white crepe de chine dress, trimmed with soft folds and insertion, and wore a. very dainty picture hat of pale blue and lavender tulle. Miss Ivy Collins wore a dress of pale grey crepe de chine and a pretty picture hat of pink and grey to match. The bridesmaids carried pink and lavender shower bouquets that were much admired. The bridegroom was attended by Mr. George Tylcoat (cousin of the bride) as best man, and Mr. Jack Bailey as groomsman. * • • After the ceremony the guests, numbering between 50 and 60, were entertained at St. Thomas' Hall, where a very enjoyable evening was spent. &> ® 8> Mrs. Reg, Wade gave a jolly little afternoon tea at Clovernook Road last week. The drawing and dining rooms were daintily decorated with spring flowers. Music and chatter whiled away the hours. F. Jones, was unavoidably absent, so Mr. A. Hintz ably filled the bill, and, assisted by Miss Jessie Bartlett, arranged a most excellent programme. Mr. E. Kohn, the energetic secretary, as usual, was most attentive to the guests. • * * In the fore part of the evening a pianoforte duet was given by Misses Marsden and O'Halloran. Songs contributed by Miss Bailey and Miss Harvey and Messrs. F. Bourke, S. Pritchard, F. Teat, and recitations by Messrs. G. Warren and Hall Skelton. • • • The latter part of the programme consisted of a "Pierrot" performance, the troupe consisting of Mrs. Hintz, Misses J. and N. Bartley, Miss Ava Symonds (violinist), and the Messrs. A. Hintz, R. Wilson, R. Bartlett, and Chas. Prime, were in black and red costumes with white neck ruffs, their choruses and topical duets were breezy, and the solos of much merit. • • • After supper dancing was indulged in with much zest. The next night of revels will ring down the curtain for this season. • • ■ Amongst others present were a number of "The Diggers," Mrs. Harris, Mrs. Lambess, Mrs. Lyons, Mrs. Hall Skelton, Mrs: Lome, Mrs. H. Gillespie, Mrs. Teat, the Misses Maxwell, P. Symons, Adams, Muriel Adams, Esson, Bartlett, and Wykes. Mr. and Mrs. P. H. P. The house was gay with quantities of bunting, and the Italian String Orchestra supplied appropriate music. * * * Mr. H. C. Tewsley, the president, formally opened the season, and most interesting races were witnessed, the trophies being gold medals presented by Mr. A. S. Bankart, the vice-commodore. * * * Afternoon tea was dispensed by a ladies' committee under the supervision of the Misses Gilmour (2), Miss Aimer, Miss D.
