A JOLLY little dance was given by the returned men to their friends at Ruakura Farm laet week. The rooms looked very gay with lovely flowers. The music was supplied by Miss Hawkins, and the floor was in fine condition. Mr. and Mrs. Green saw that everyone had a good time, A few who were present being Mesdames Ross, Donny, Walsh Misses E. Cussen, K. Graham, G. Cussen, E. Heywood, Donny, L. Ctissen, Johnson, Harrison, Walsh. m> ® e> The sale of work held in the St. George's Hall at Frankton, on Wednesday, attracted a lot of visitors. The sale was opened by Archdeacon Cowie, and the various stall-holders did good business all the afternoon. Mrs. J. E. Herbert/president of the guild, and Miss Jolay, secretary, are to be congratulated on the arrangements. Those who were responsible for the different stalls were: Lollies Stall: Bible Class Girls ; Plain Stall: Mesdames Pearse and Hodder; Fancy Stall: Mrs. Simmons, Miss Jolly; Produce Stall: Mesdames Searle, Steele, Poynton ; Tea-rooms: Mesdames Gosling, Rolfe, and Hardcastle. ® @ ® The garden fete at "Sonning," on Saturday afternoon, in aid of the G.F.S. Hostel Funds, was largely attended. The weather was rather cold, but fortunately the rain kept off. The various dances by pupils of the Hamilton Girls' School were very pretty, and were arranged by Miss Knight, of Auckland. * • • The dancers were all dressed in white, and wore different flowers, buttercups, roses, daisies, forget-me-nots, and lillies. The girls later on in the afternoon gave an exhibition of drilling and marching in thendrill -uniforms. Sweets and ices were for sale, given by friends of the G.F.S. Afternoon tea was dispensed to all the visitors, and was highly appreciated. White, Burley, Tsheremissinoff. $> ® © On Saturday afternoon the Whitiora Bowling and Croquet Clubs held their official openings. A great number of visitors were present, and they were well entertained. An orchestra rendered choice selections, and several solos were sung by Messrs. E. Parker and Smith. * • • The afternoon tea was one of the daintiest served at any function for a long time. Some enjoyable games of croquet and bowls were played during the afternoon.
