The first attempt of the British to build an airship was a distinct failure. It was completed in August, 1911, and refused to fly. It was eventually scrapped. Yet just on eight years later the British built "R. 34" makes the pioneer airship trip across the Atlantic. England is usually slow in making a start, yet has the happy knack of "getting there" at the finish.
