This picture, which has already cost the Vox Company £200,01)0, is being directed by Herbert Brenon in Kingston, Jamaica. a * • A reason for film producers' anxiety to secure the services of stage stars is disclosed in a recent statement by Thomas H. Ince, one of the Triangle directors. "1 have always been a believer in the value of the stage star to the photo-dramatic production, and it is not merely a commercial value. I have often engaged players with big names who have not returned one quarter of what they were paid; but they certainly are of artistic worth to motion pictures. They bring new methods of treating various situations and new ideas of emotional registration which cannot but benefit the films." Despite Ince's "no commercial value" assertion, however, the concern with which he has affiliated has engaged among others, Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree and Miss Billie Burke; and the last American mail brought news of their financial and dramatic film success. Frank Mills and Bessie Barriscale are two others who have come to the motion pictures at Ince's bidding, and appear together in "The Golden Claw."
