OHINEMURI.

Probably Ohinemuri desires no change in representation, and the seat is well held by Mr Hugh Poland, who has been settled in it since 1905. The troubles in the Ohinemuri mining district have been many, and the political faiths of a peculiarly emotional brand of people are hard to gauge. Mr Joseph Clarke, the habitual holder's opponent, has, as you are aware, taken a large hand in local affairs, and he has unquestionably the support of a large number of people. The result of this election will be determined by the attitude of the people towards the party in power, for there is still a great deal of bitterness and ill-feel-ing. Mr Poland has in any case devoted his excellent talents most unselfishly to the people of Ohinemuri, and it seems unlikely, from a personal standpoint, that he can be displaced.
