THE SOCIAL SPHERE

[By Myka.]

IN every respect the Takapuna races were a brilliant function, attracting all classes of Aucklanders to a favourite haunt. An exceedingly enjoyable time was spent and Auckland society turned out in its very newest and nicest bib and tucker. The fine raiment, no less than tiie large speculation seems to indicate that up to date Auckland women do not feel the pinch of war. This is very gratifying, especially as so many have denied themselves to find comforts for our gallant allies. * * *

® <© ® Mrs J. Trevethick, of St. James' Square, Auckland, left on Wednesday by the express for a three weeks holiday to Rotorua and Hot Lakes region. Xfi © ®> One of the most popular weddings celebrated in the Waikato district was solemnised on Thursday, November 19th The contracting parties were Miss Isabella Capwell, youngest daughter of the late Mr J. Capwell, of England, and Mr Richard (Dick) Harmon, youngest eon of the late Mrs Ann Stanley, of Hautapu. The ceremony was performed by the Rev J C. Fussell, of Morrmsville in the Church of All Saints, Mata Mata. The service was fully choral and most impressive. The church was very tastefully decorated for the occasion.

The bride was handsomely attired in a white satin gown with point D'Alcon lace and trimmed with pearls and had a long tram on which lay a spray of orange blossoms and wore a becoming cap of D Aicon lace veil trimmed with orange blossoms and pearls and carried a shower bouquet of French roses, the gift of the bridegroom. The gown was made by Messrs Milne and Choyce, Auckland. The bridesmaids in attendance were Miss Plaw, Auckland, (niece of the bridegroom) Miss Ivill, Auckland, and Misses Edna and Russie Moore-Jones. They were attractively dressed in ninon frocks of sweet pea colours of the palest shades. The blending of the colours was strikingly effective and novel. They wore mob caps of ninon, edged with sweet pea petals, the frocks also being draped with petals, and they carried crooks and shower bouquets ot sweet pea the gift of the bridegroom.

The bride was given away by her brother-in-law, Mr J. F. Roche, while Mr Innis Taylor, of Cambridge, acted asTiest man, and' Mr Russell Flaw, S roomsman The wedding breakfast was partakeni ot by 130 guests in the Town Hall. Mr and Mm Moore-Jones filled the position as host and hostess. Over forty telegrams of. congratulations were received, including one from tn»

Hon. W. H. Herries, M.P., who was unable to be present. The presents were displayed in a room adjoining the Town Hall. They were numerous and magnificent, coming from all parts of the Dominion, showing the popularity of the bride and bridegroom. The bridegroom's present to the bride was a diamond and pearl necklace and earrings, and the bride's present to the bridegroom a case fo silver brushes with monogram. To the bridesmaids the bridegroom gave engraved gold bangles.

A large number of toasts were enthusiastically honoured, the principal of which were: "The King," proposed by Major Allen; "The Bride and Bridegroom," proposed by the Rev. Fuesell and responded to in a characteristic manner by the bridegroom; "The Bridesmaids," proposse! by Mr Hannon and responded to by the best man; "The Relatives and the Visitors."

The happy couple left by the express for Rotorua, the Mata Mata platform being crowded by their many friends who gave them a hearty send-off amidst showers of confetti. The bride looked very smart in a cream striped suiting costume and tussore dust coat with tomato silk collar and facings and black model hat, the only trimming being a bunch of split grass.
