Gisborne has solved the problem of good and permanent reading. After testing the merits of Kortfelt for three years, they are satisfied that the material is standing better than anything else they have tried. Kortfelt was laid down where the heaviest traffic passed in one of the main thoroughfares of Gisborne over three years ago and is in as good a condition today as when first laid. This material is a New Zealand patent, made chiefly from specially prepared tar mixed with saw-dust and shavings, etc. Mr H. Leslie Friend, the chief owner and manager of the business, mentions that when laid down Kortfelt is wonderfully resilient, noiseless and dustproof, and is just as suitable for hill work as for flat roads. All his experiments have turned out wonderfully well. Kortfelt is a New Zealand invention made of New Zealand, bye-pro-ducts by New Zealanders. It is no strain on local authorities to be loyal to it, as it is of the highest excellence.
