The wowser is becoming an infliction in London. Recently a body of social purists protested against the performance of a play called " Improper Peter," because the title was said to be suggestive of The piece was the most innocent possible, and the situations were decorous to the verge of imbecility. Yet the protesters had their way, and the name of the play was altered to " Proper Peter," which, as it happened, was exactly what poor old Peter was.
The " Get-Rich-Quick Wallingford " Company has brought back to Australia Miss Marian Dunn, who ten years ago was a promising young actress with Mr Bland Holt. Miss Dunn (says the Telegraph) is a daughter of Marcus Clarke, the novelist. She takes her stage name from her mother, Marian Dunn, who as an actress was associated with Booth, Julia Matthews, Walter Montgomery, and other stars of bygone days. A brother of the actress is also on the American stage, under the name of Arthur Elton. He is doing well in the States. Miss Dunn has had a varied experience in America,, where she has won recognition as a character actress. She mentions that Walter Sanford, who was in New Zealand with a stock oompany a few years ago, has built a big theatre in Vancouver, where he is doing remarkably well.
