There is a pier here to which pleasure boats are attached, and a sail in the Channel or around extinct Mount Rangitoto is a favourite excursion of all visitors. A few chains from the shore, fish of various kinds may be caughr. in abundance, at any state of the tide, while inland, and within threehundred yards of the spacious, and well laid-out grounds of " Mon Desir " visitors can reach the banks of Lake Takapuna, a picturesque expanse of fresh water, where good trout fishing is obtainable.
