Mr Victor Cornaga's recent purchase, Ash by, has been striding along in great style at Ellerslie, and the son of Obligado ought to give speedy return to his owner. Dearest won the concluding event of the Wellington gathering, and it must have been gratifying to Mr Buckley, and also to the rider (Ben Deely) after the other mistake. One of the talent, a youth, misnamed Tommy the Mug, who generally does the race meetings from Cape Maria Van Diem en to the Bluff, got a pointer from an Auckland friend at the Wellington meeting, and, with the assistance of a few clients, ran into a few hundreds. The Missus, The Mag, and the little Mugs, are now taking the rest cure in the country. "They toil not, neither do they spin," etc. Mrs Lennard's pair, Santa Rosa and Waimangu, are putting in good work on the tan track at Ellerslie, and should give a good account of themselves at the Wanganui gathering. ■ The good field of 14 started on the Wellington Cup, and Undecided, who had been backed for a lot of money on the appearance of the weights, for some unaccountable reason on the day receded to an outside price, but came with a rush and cut her field down and won easily, with Midnight Sun second and Coromandel third, and the Hawke's Bay trained Bliss whipping in the field. Time, 2.35 4-5 seconds.
