A- VERY pretty wedding was solemnised on June Ist at St. Mary's pro-Cathedral, Parnell, by Canon Mac Murray. the contracting parties being Mite Emily Mat- . tooks, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Mattocks, of Park Road, Parnell, and Mr W. Lissant Clayton, of Gisborne. The bride looked lovely in a gown of ivory Oriental satin, ornamented with Russian braid, and draped with ninon. Mxquisdte lace was arranged on the bodice, and a folded satin belt encircled the waist. An embroidered net veil was worn over a wreath of orange blossoms, and a bridal bouquet completed her costume. Two sisters of the bride were in attendance,., both wearing creme dresses, made in Russian style. Miss J. Mattocks wore a hat of mulberry straw, with shaded ribbons in the same' tone, and she carried a lovely bouquet of tea roses to match. Miss Ruby Mattocks wore a violet hat,, and carried a bouquet to correspond. The bridegroom was supported by Mr Miller as best man, and Mr Johnston as groomsman. - The bride received a ruby and pearl pendant, also a set of fox furs from the bridegroom* while the bridesmaids were the recipients of gold bangles. .■ * .* • After the ceremony a reception was held at the Grand Hotel, Princesstreet. Mrs Mattocks, mother of the bride, looked well in black silk, and a rose toque. Mrs H. Smith, »sister of the'bride; wore an amethyst coat and skirt, hat to match. Mrs McDell (sister); grey costume, black hat. Mrs Ramger, handsome dress of black silk, violet bonnet. Mrs Sea'ley, creme dress, black hat. Mrs Percival, navy coat and 6kirt, hat to match. Mr and Mrs Clayton subsequently left for a honeymoon trip by the Main Trunk, the bride travelling in a wine-coloured Russian costume, braided with black, and a black hat with trimming in two shades to match the dress. On King's Birthday, the races held at ,Ellerslie were largely attended, and despite the dull and threatening weather, the ladies. turned out in their new winter costumes, the lawns and stands being gay with an animated throng of well-dressed women. The attendance on Saturday was not so large as on the previous day, owing to the heavy rain which fell, greatly marring the pleaure of the day . Miss Ellis, green striped costume, black and white, hat. Miss Poppy Simson, stylish coat and skirt in old rose colour, faced with black, hat to match. The Misses Casey looked well, one in violet and the other in brown. The presentation of diplomas to graduates of the Auckland University College always attracts a crowd of interested spectators, and the recent Capping Day was no exception to the rule. Following the public ceremony in the Choral Hall, an "At Home" was given in the lecture rooms of the University College, at which the undergraduates entertained those who had been capped, and a number of friends. The rooms were decorated with Autumn leaves, and the afternoon tea was served at small tables. A very pleasant time was enjoyed by all. Miss Minnie Lovett,fof Mt. Eden, entertained a number of her girl friends on Thursday last, prior to her marriage" with Mr Hector Morpeth, solicitor, of this city. The happy event is to eventuate on the 16th of this month. m • • A very jolly afternoon "At Home " was given by Mrs J. Montague, Mercer-street, Ponsonby, on Saturday. Two merry and exciting competitions occupied the major part of the afternoon. Mrs J. Self securing the prize in the first, whilst Miss Lily Dixon was the fortunate winner of the second. Mrs A. The happy couple subsequently left by the Main Trunk for a tour of the King Country, the bride wearing a smart green dress, with hat of the colour. The bridegroom presented his b '• 1 c with a handsome gold brooch set with pearls. To the first bridesmaid he gave a handsome jewelled pendant-, and to- the second bridesmaid a gold brooch set with pearls and emeralds.
