A P O L 0' G V In ■" The Spectator " of April 3Q, under the heading of "Personal Pars,' , & (paragraph appeared, m which - reference was made to the case of Captain F. B. Knyvett, of Auckland. The intention of the writer was to travesty the sympathy of the Auckland people for Captain Knyvett regarding his case. -. In the paragraph a statement was made that,at a gathering in his sympathy, Captain Knyvett handed round a. collection, bag for the purpose "of soliciting funds for the prosecution of his appeal to the public in regard to hie case. "We now learn that no such; gathering was held, and that the whole paragraph was without foun-. dation. We therefore absolutely withdraw the statements therein made,' and unreservedly apologise and express our deep regret to Captain Knyvett for the publication x>l the article.
