The murderer was never caught, but, a few weeks ago, while a member of our staff was having a pint with a casual stranger, the said stranger confided to our representative the fact that he (the stranger) was the only original Jack the Hipper, and produced con-vincing-proof of his assertion. Our representative, although a journalist, still possesses the remnants of a conscience, and at first proposed to hand the desperado over to the police. On learning, however, that the murderer was willing to write a full and complete history of his life and crimes, he refrained from summoning a policeman, and, at considerable expense to us, purchased the assassin's manuscript. This will be published in weekly instalments, and each instalment is guaranteed to contain reading of a most revolting and blood-curdling nature. That being so, it must be plain to the meanest intellect that tnis is just the type of literature that should be introduced into the home circle. It will be found both edifying and elevating for Sunday reading. The first instalment will appear in our next issue, and we desire our readers on no account to miss " The Life and Crimes of Jack the Ripper," written by himself.
