LAZY.
[For the Observer]
At six I tumbles out er bed., . Ter work at seven-thirty — At night I comes 'cmc almos' dead An' oil-begrimed an' dirty. I wash meself an' 'aye me tea, An' when ther sunset's hazy, I 'aye ter milk ther cows — theer's three — An' yet they say, I'm lazy ! An' arter that, an' fit ter faint, I 'aye ter wash them dishes ; Some poet-fellers say life ain't Quite allus as one wishes. They ain't fur wrong ; I've got ter clean Ther shoes er Nan an' Daisy ; An' yet they says "I'm 'orrid mean," .An' allus swears I'm lazy. It ain't no fun a-gettin' out On mornin's raw an' chillin', When winter's come, with frosts about, Altho' you be a-willin'. It really is a sight too rough — Sometimes I think they're crazy — Says they : '"E don't do 'arf enough — Ther kid is darn well lazy !" An' so I guess I'll run away, Unless theer ways be mendin' ; I may be 'ome at break o' day But miles off at the endin' ! An' when, instead, th v 'aye ter rise, An' work er mornin's hazy, Per'aps they'll sort er realise I warn't so extry lazy 1 E. L. Eyre. Tui-street, Devonport.
