MacMahon's Pictures.

With their stock of films replenished by importations fresh from the Old World, the MacMahon Brothers re-opened anew biograph season at His Majeß%'s on Tuesday night. The pro. gramme is bright and lively from start to finish. The pictures tell tales of adventure and romance and pathos in abundance, and if tbe episodes are in places far-fetched, there is no mistake about their humourousness. Also, they are admirably produced, by means of an up-to-date lantern, the vibration being reduced to a minimum, and commonly bring a missing quantity. Under this heading the management may fairly claim to have reached about the top notch of perfection yet realised in kinematograpby in these parts. * « *

For realistic reproduction of an actual event, the views of " A TenMile Steeplechase" stand foremost. There must be eighteen or twenty jumps in the selection, some of them negotiated with disastrous results to steeds and riders. The rushes of competitors and of sympathetic spectators are splendidly shown. Probably the next best thing to witnessing a real steeplechase is to witness its presentation on the MacMahon canvas. Another thrilling series depicts the rescue by a Montana girl of her cowboy lover from the hands of a misguided lynching party, and her elopement with him across country with the vigilance committee in full ohase. Then there are incidents of lovemaking, jealousy, and domestic occurrences galore, intermixed with eccentric cycle and motor car misadventure, rescue from burning buildings, aquatic tableaux, and farcical chases. Altogether, a well varied and exciting series.

Miss Lorraine Tansley fills in the intervals between the pictures with well - selected songs, illustrated by limelight views. In the opening programme her most successful efforts were " When the Lilacs Bloom Again " and " When the Harvest Moon is Shining." There will be exhibitions each evening until further notice, and a matinee will take place on Saturday afternoon.
