ST. ANDREW'S CHURCH, Gambridge, was on TJiitrß--day, May 23rd, the scene of an. exceedingly pretty wedding, which occasioned more than ordinary interest in the community. The contracting couple were Miss Effie, Gertrude Willis,' third daughter of the Veh. Archdeacon Willie, and Mr J. B. Lusk, fifth son of Mr H. H; Lusk, of Auckland. The Yen. Archdeacon Willis officiated", assisted by the Yen. Archdeacon Walsh, and the service w,a» choral. The bride was giv:en away by, her uncle, Mr R. S. Richardson, and wore a handsome trained dress of 'white cbiflon : velvet, trimmed with .filmy dace,, andan? embroidered tulle veil over a coronet, of orange blossoms, ;_and she carried an , exquisite ; snower bouquet, : finished with streamers of cliifftm?-: the gift .of the bridegroom^who also presented her with a-handgoihe-gold-wateh^ ■■ ■ ' . i
The bridesmaids were i>lisses Willis (2), sisters of the bride, and two little girls, Misses Muriel Briff ault, cousin of. the bride, and Kathleen Knight, niece of the bridegroom. The first couple wore stylish dresses of brown velvet,' the bodices finished with ecru lace and tucks of orange velvet, and smart brown velvet hats, with ostrich feathers, caught with tulle rosettes and gold buckles. The little maids were also frocked in brown velvet, with deep collars of silk Maltese lace, and tan shoes and socks ; and the whole party carried beautiful bouquets .of flowerß and foliage in autumn tints. The bridegroom /presented the elder ladies with initial gold chains, and the little maids with gold brooches. Mr H. B. Lusk, of Onristchurch, was best man, and Mr B. de L. Willis groomsman. A reception was later held- by the Yen. Archdeacon and Mrs Willis in the adjoining schoolroom which was tastefully decorated and arranged for the occasion. Mr and Mrs Lusk departed for Okoroire, the bride travelling in a smart tailor-made costume of dark blue cloth, and blue velvet hat with white ostrich feather and rosettes of tulle.

Te Aroha, to Mr Fran y is WiUi in Strange, third son of Mr William Strange, took place in St. David's Presbyterian Church, Te Aroha, on Wednesday, May 22nd. ' Tha church was tastefully decorated by the ladies of the choir, who had ah-) erected a floral arch with- peadai,t wedding bell, under which the couple stood during the ceremony. The Rev. Colin Robertson officiated, and the service was choral. r Lhe bride was given away by her father, and was attended b^ four bridesniaids, Misses Edith, Irvine and Olive Stanley; sisters of "the 1 bride, and 'Miss Nellie McCormick s niece of the bridegroom. The ■engagement is announced of Miss Helen fytenzies, only daughter of Mr J. Merizies, Nemuefa, to Mr J. H. I^rgusori, Becbnd son of Mr J. Fergason, of Cambridge.
The marriage of Mr David Hil), third son of Mr John Hill, of Hukerenui, to Miss Emily Florence Walker, daughter of Mr Marmaduke Walker, took place at Mr Walker's residence, Mairtown, Whangarei, on the 23rd ulb. The Rev. Colin Harrison officiated. The bride was drfssed in a blue costume, with white trimmings, and was attended by her niece, Miss Linda Hiscock, as bridesmaid. Amongst the wedding gifts was a dinaer-set presented by the North Ward Football Club, of which Mr Hill is a prominent member.
The engagement is announced of Miss Freda Cooper, third daughter of Mrs William Cooper, Wainui, Gisborne, to Mr W. Clark, ot Auckland.
The engagement is anaounced of Miss L. Pearce, of Mount Eden, to Mr Geoffrey Nevill.
The social event of Whangarei last week was the ball held by the Whangarei Rifles, which took place in the Drill-hall, and proved a brilliant success, nearly three hundred revellers being present. The military decorations were admirably carried out, the floor, thanks to the industry of an energetic sub-committee, was in perfect order, the music provided by a small brass and string band was of the best, and the dancing arrangements passed off without a hitch, under the direction of a corps of M.C.'s consisting of the Mayor of Whangarei, Captain Dee, and Lieuts. Pearce and McCarroll. The ladies of the town contributed materially to an excellent supper. Whangarei has not enjoyed itself so thoroughly for many a day,
