IT was ideal weather for lacrosse last Saturday. Lovers of ('anada's national field-sport assembled in hundreds at the Domain ; the "go" between Grafton and North Shore being the great attraction. The mceting>f the unbeaten Graf, ton men and the North Shore team had been looked forward to with con siderable interest. The latter team had many followers. Recent form displayed by the "blues" had raised them high in the estimation of good judges. It came almost as a surprise to many when the game ended four goals to nil m favour of Grafton. The North Shore attack men were quite outclassed by Grafton's backs • the result of this being that the brunt of the work fell upon Ward, Blackler and Kelly, who splendidly defended the precincts of Kagleton's goal crease The long, powerful throws from Grafton s defence men kept most of the play in North Shore's territory. Parnells defenders succeeded in keeping Ponsonby's battery at bay for more than half the game, bnt towards the end form told its tale, and Ponsonby s homes were able to ring on seven goals, while their own net was left undisturbed. Suburbs had a " ding-dong go ' with (.rey Lynn, and just managed to snatch a victory in the last few minutes. Cosletl has recovered from his accident, and donned Grey Lynn's colours again on Saturday. There have been enquiries as to whether there is likely to be a contest this season between the eastern and western district clubs. It is understood the contest will be held if ground is available. The secretary of the Grafton club wants his club-mates to go out for a run every evening to see if they can come across the notorious "ghost." There are some " greyhounds " in the club, and if some of them got on his track it would mean a bad time for the ghost. All lacrosse fixtures for next Saturday, 24th instant, have been struck out in order that lacrosseurs may have an opportunity to patronise the sistersport, Association football, and witness the Auckland-Wellington match

At' Balaclava years ago, Six hundred men engaged the foe, Ah ! what a gallant charge was made, By that courageous Light Brigade. Though many perished there, who knows The numbers killed by Russia's snows, For none can damp and cold endure, Without some Woods' Great Peppermint Cure.
