MAUNGATUROTO.
The bachelors' nlain and fancy dress ball was a great success, and reflected great credit on the energetic secretary. There were seventy-five couples present, and dancing was kept up till daylight The ladies looked charming, and out of such a variety it 'was no easy task to name the belle, bat the choice lay between Miss Collier, Spring ; Miss McCar oil, ' Queen of Eoses ; and Miss Smith, Night. The following are a few of the more striking costumes ; Miss Hemming, Spring ; Mias E Rowsell, Little (Mrl in Blue ; Miss Fort Poppy ; Miss Johnston, Summer ; Mrs E Flower, creme costume ; Miss Flower, Ivy ; Miss Baily, Daisy ; Mrs A Curtis, Mama's Tarling ; Miss V CurfeH, Butterfly ; Mrs A Harrison, Xiims Lily ; Mrs W Cullen, black and fjoia : Miss Leach, Waitress ; Miss E Hmith, Forget-me-not. Gents : Mr J Cullen, Cook ; Mr G Curtis, Sailor ; Mr .7 McOarroll, Day and Night ; Mr A Smith, Middie ; Mr A Curtis, Naval Captain ; Mr F Meyers, Duke of Wellington ; Mr J Mould, Sir Peter Teazle ; A great-many of the ladies and gentlemen appeared in evening dre3B, which, interspersed ■with the fancy dressee, rnde a very pretty scene ; and, judging by f • <• ooning of some of the boys, there is lite y to be a run on ■wedding rings and cake.
