ROUGH ON JAMES.
Somebody's Lap Dog. E. .E. Taylor, Opposition candidate for the Thames seat, was not paying any compliments to James McGowan when he told tne electors he would rather be a live rat with freedom, than somebody's lap dog chained to a kennel. As the sally waa received with load cheers and great laughter, the meeting evidently reckoned that it was a pretty straight knock-oat for somebody.
Intending pleasure-seekers who want a real good time daring the holidays, and want it at a moderate cost, will do well to take a glance at the advertisement elsewhere relating to the Union a s. Oo.'s grand snmmer excursion to the Sounds of New Zealand. That capital, tip to date steamer, the W&ikare, is to be pat in commission for the trip. She leaves Wellington for a three weeks' cruise on or about January 4th, and no pains are to be spared to enhance the pleasure or promote the comfort of the excursionists. No more than three passengers will be berthed in any one cabin, and the fares range from £18, according to position in the ship.
