There was some spirited bidding at the sale of reading-room papers the other night, A B making the running up rather sultry for some of the buyers, especially D D... G P makes a iirsfc- class ' knight of the hammer,' and he need i all liis persuasive powers to move some of the skinflints.. H M of XV has grown quite enthusiastic about the reading-room of late, and has promised a handsome donation... There was quite an enjoyable dance to wind up with.,.W K was conspicuous by his absence. His usual little speech was quite missed, as was also his tea and cake ..J McP played the pipes in his usual able manner, but he is so very bashful when there are any ladies about. . B P had better be careful, or he will be Retting into hot water. .Misses AW and LM sang a very nice duet, which was greatly appreciated. . . W M is as lively as a sand-boy since J W has come back again. ..Didn't W V quite fetch the girls with that song aod dauco...P McL has all the running with A M. . W McX was going about at the dance iv a hilf-dreamy state. Must have been thinking of the girl he left behind him.. Golf is getting quite the rage here just now; more so with the ladies, who make some very clever drives at the— ahem— ground.. JH is very spooney on n. certain widow in Hastings.. The O M would like to know who finds DDiu all the stfety pins. ..Too bad of I) D to give A M the cold shoulder bo soou. Now's your chance C E... What takes J It to Hastings every Saturday night ? Is it to see JVJ G?...Who was the r.ice young man that took L M home from the dance the other night ?..K V is gettiug very caroful lately— keeps clear of barbed wire fences.. Who was the young lady that was going to throw D Dv, hat into the river. K G looks quite lost lately. Hope J H enjoyed himself at the birthday tea on Sunday night.. .W M has a good track dowD the Flat lately.
