OUR GOLDFIELDS OWE THE GOVERNMENT NOTHING.
His Excellency the Governor referred in his Speech at the opening of Parliament to the importance -which the Mining Industry had assumed and the immense impetus it was giving to the Colony. Disheartened Miner : I say, sir, if the goldfields are of such great consequence, don't you think the Government ought to give us proper roads so that we may get to them ? Also, do you think it right for the Government to take our Tairua mines from us after we had so much trouble to find them ?
