FITZROY
The leap-year ball in aid of the Fitzroy Club came off on Thursday evening last, and was in every way a great success, it being estimated that fully 200 people were present. Miss A and E Young carried out the duties of M C's in a very efficient manner. The music — which was supplied by Mesdames Gilmour and vv cs tmacott, and Messrs Davidson and Humphries— was greatly appreciated by the dancers. During the evening Mr Tjewis gave a whistling solo, and in response to an encore sang ' The Masquerade Ball ' in a fine, masterly manner. After supper, which was kindly provided by the Fitzroy ladies, Mr Poote took over the duties of M C, and kept the dancing going until half-past two, when one of the most enjoyable dances ever held m the hall was brought to a clo3e by singing the National Anthem . .On Friday evening a children's dance was held, there being a very good muster of the juveniles. The sum of £i:> 13s (id was taken at the door, and I am told that after paying all expenses the ladies' committee will be able to hand over to the Club something over .£l2, which will go towards reducing the debt on the hall. I understand that the Club will continue to hold their fortnightly dances, and I hope they will be well patronised.
