PALMERSTON NORTH

The Railway Library plain and fancy dress ball was a brilliant success, and was undoubtedly the most enjoyable gathering that has been held in connection with the library. The appearance of the room reflected great credit on the committee, who worked energetically to make the ball a success. Dancing was kept up until about 3 a.m. The music was most capably supplied by Messrs J. Bottomley (piano) and F. Meyrick (cornet). Mr T. Wilson was a most efficient M.C. Amongst the visitors present was Mr Beattie, locomotive manager. The following were the fancy dresses : — Ladies — Mrs Dunstone, Spring ; Miss Whalley, Spain ; Miss E. Whalley, Italy; Miss Tapper, Dresden Shepherdess ; Miss Maule, Maid of Athens ; Miss Chambers, Hospital Nurse; Mrs Bemnant, Hospital Nurse ; Miss A. Neuth, Hospital Matron; Miss 0. Green, Swiss "Waiting Maid ; Miss Miller, Ivy ; Miss I. Miller, Gipsy ; Miss O'Brien, Spanish Tambourine Girl; Mrs I. Fake, Spanish Peasant. Gentlemen — Mr T. Wilson, Robin Hood ; Mr G. Drummond, Mephistopheles ; Mr G. Bennet, Courtier, Mr R. Nelson, Sailor; Mr C. Dunford, Irishman; Mr P. Caldicutt, Page ; Mr W. Wilkins, Clown ; Mr F. Dunstone, Dummy Clown ; Mr I. Fake, Cricketer ; Mr M. Miller, Neapolitan Fisherman ; Mr D. Manton, Sailor ; Mr W. Lewis, Australian Stockman ; Mr W. Hall, Lawn Tennis ; Mr A. Burr, Sir Walter Raleigh. A large number of ladies and gentlemen were present in evening dress. The following comprised the committee: — Messrs Morton, T. Wilson, H. Carroll, G. Burns, H. Stephenson, E. McKenna and G. Bennett (secretary).. . How are the two bike club's going to get on ? . .1 see S.T., the captain of the Cash Club, can ride without using his hands now, and those knickers !
