THE Lorcnette
The. Christmas attraction at the Opera House will be provided by Miss Myra JSTemble and her specially - organised comedy company who are now concluding most satisfactory tours of New Zealand. The previous visit to Auckland of Miss Myra Kemble will te fresh in the minds of our readers, who readily remember how she convulsed her audiences with those side-splitting comedies ' Dr. Bill ' and 'Jane.' This time the gifted actress comes to us with a very varied repertoire which embraces ' A White Lie,' by Sydney Grundy; ' The Profligate,' the latest and greatest achievement of the prolific author, A. W. Pinero, ' Our Flat,' and ' The Late Lamented,' both farcical comedies, ' Peer of the Realm ' (drama by Broughton) and in all probablity for the first time on any stage, 'Pauline Blanchard' as played by Madame Sarah Bernhardt on her last visit to Sydney. Besides these productions, Aucklanders may depend upon once more making acquaintance with 'Dr. Bill'snd * Jane,' two comedies with which Miss Kemble's name will long be closely identified with. The season here commences on Boxing night with ' A White Lie.' Miss Kemble is supported by a capital company, whi"h includes Mr Edward Sase, one of the leading actors of the Australian stage, and many other capable artistes.
On BoxiDg-night, Miss Myra Kemble opens at the Opera House with her famous comedy company, including Mr Edward Sass, our old friend George Leitch, and many other well-known artistes. The opening attraction will be 'A White Lie,' with the comedietta, ' The Nettle ' as a curtain-raiser. The Kemble Oo.'s repertoire includes all the very latest London successes. The season ought to pan out a huge success. Amongst the most attractive novelties Miss Kemble brings with her are Pincro's ' The Profligate,' and that funniest of modern comedies, ' Our Plat.' * • » The celebrated Payne Family of Bellringers open in Auckland, at City Hall, on Christmas .Night when they will give a grand sacred concert. The programme, (which we have seen) is a splendid one. It comprises a number of vocal and instrumental items of an appropriate and popular kind. On Boxing night the family commence their secular concerts at the same hall. The present New Zealand tour, which commenced in October last, has been a succession of successes. Everywhere the Family has drawn crowded and delighted audiences. The company has i recently been strengthened by the accession of two new members — Miss Bella Hendricks, (solo violinisfce) and Miss Elfie Morella, (soprano) from Guildhall School of Music, London. We predict a brilliant season for the Paynes, more especially as ' popular prices ' are to rule.
Montague-Turner Company opens in Auckland, on January 15. Annis Montagne, Cicely Staunfcon, Charley Turner and Fred England, principals.
