It is difficult to see what .else the electors of this district could do than return Mr Thompson. He had arrayed against him the influence of the local newspaper and the extreme Temperance interest, but neither seems to have been powerful enough to keep him out. Indeed, few of the successful candidates can boast of greater majorities than his. It almost looks as if the opposition of the local newspaper and the extreme Temperance party rather helped him than otherwise.
