Mr John Fuller's steamboat excursion to Pine Island- on Sunday afternoon attracted a very large number of people. The chance of a oonple of hours' steaming over the harbour, with a vocal and instru- • mental concert thrown in (and al^ for a shilling), is one that is bound to be popular. There is at least one very decided novelty in advertising in the Christmas Number of the Observer. This is the announcement of the Direct Supply Co. of Auckland. The advertisement was written by the Secretary of the Company, and a fac simile of his handwriting produced by means of the Observer photo-zinco-graphies process. From this block, the advertisement was printed— so that the announcement appears in the newspaper in the handwriting of the gentleman who penned it.
