GRAND NATIONAL HURDLES.

Kulnine tops tha list with 11.12. His performances are too well known to need repeating. He looks a real good thing. Tiritea ahould have a say with 11.5. Marechel Niel is said to be doing well, and has been backed by his owner for the double. However, I think Belmont (10.0) will beat him. He is in rave form, and though in his schooling jumps badly, performs like a tradesman in actual racing.

Kapua's pace is undoubted. Should he jump he would be dangerous. Ingorina, I think, will find the distance too far.

Mutiny (9.4) can have no show with Kapua should the latter jump all right. He has an outside show, however. I will endeavonr to place them thus :

Kulnine .... 1 Belmont ... 2 Merechel Neil 3

with Tiritea and Mutiny next best. Selling Steeplechase. I think the result will be Colonel 1 Kate 2 Hurricane 3 Eight are engaged in the Maiden Hurdles. My remarks on Kapua in the big event apply here. My fancies are : — Despised .-. 1 fr-andy Muir 2 Isidore ... 3 Ladies' Bracelet.

Only fi ve horseß are engaged. Van Diemen and Fright are in the same stable (Wright's), Ida, Ingorina and Lottie are the other three. To place them I take Lottie 1 Ida 2 Wright's selected 3 The G. N. Steeplechase is run next Wednesday. At present there is a big field. The first day's running will probably throw some light on it. The top weight, Norton, 12.8 is a splendid specimen of a chaser and the big weight should not stop him. Mangare (12.4) is a proficient fencer and knows every inch, of the ground. Tiritea (11.5) is reported to be as good over country as the small sticks. The same may be said of Marechel Neil (10.0). Booties (10.8) has lib less than at Bgmont. The extra half-mile and the hill may prove too much for him. He is a sure jumper. Waterbury (10.7) has lots of pace but is unreliable, though he won the Trial Steeplechase, 1 Wanganui, fencing grandly. Flukem (9.12) beat Mangere last Easter. He has a chance. Chester (9,9) ran second to Empire at Wanganui. He is a stayer, and being of the nnggoty kind, the country should suit him. Of those below him I only care for Deceiver (9.8) and Despised (9.7). , To place them I will take Norton 1 Chester " ; . 2 Tiritea 3 adding as next best Mangare, Deceiver and Waterbury.
