A Presentation.
Mb F. W. Micklewright writes us from 53, Charlwood-street, Plimlico, London, S.W. ; A townsman of Auckland, having worked amongst us for some considerable time, and having by his kindness of heart, good workmanship, and every other quality that goes to make the rising man, won the esteem of all who came in contact with him, I thought that perhaps the following would be of interest to your readers : On Friday night, January 27th, the ' Sovereign' Restaurant, St. Martin's Lane, London, was the scene of a pleasant presentation to a member of the printing trade, Mr J. A. Hatswell, by his fellow companions with whom he had been associated, on the occasion "of his quitting England, for his distant home in Auckland, New Zealand. Mr Donlin presided. In making the presentation the Chairman spoke in the most eulogistic terms of the manner in whidi Mr Hatswell had always conducted Tlim self, of his excellent workmanship and benevolent disposition, and aptly remarked at the close that ' such men aB Mr Hatswell, when they left the Old Country, were a distinct loss to it.' During the time that of H. has been in London he has made very many friends, and one and all were in more than earnest when the final parting came, and tear-bedimmed eyes and husky voices bespoke the feelings of those who thus parted with him, wishing him ' God speed ' to his home and a hope of again seeing him. The presentation consisted of a gold seal to be attached to a chain as a guard, and was subscribed for by all the company present. The evening was spent in conviviality, a professional pianist rendering some excellent musio. The company dispersed after singing ' Auld Lang Syne ' and cheers, three times three, for 'Jack.' Should he ever return to London again, his welcome will be most hearty.
