The Clan, by Gilderoy out of Scot Free' 8 dam, is being sent along.

Weights for the Takapuna J.C. Winter, Friday, 12th inst., by 4 p.m.

Cracksbot has been sold to a Gisbornite, and will perform stud duties in that district.

Owing to the wet weather, the tracks at Ellerslie have prevented any fast work of late.

Byers is giving Ingorina jumping exercise, and the son of Ingomar shapes remarkably well.

Hotchkiss — Aida colt has been backed, and is growing very like his halfbrother, Impulse.

Coalscuttle is responsible for a fair amount of work. I presume Takapuna will be her dart.

North New Zealand Grand National Steeplechase Meeting: comes off on Saturday, June 3rd, and Wednesday, June 7th.

Malua — Wanda filly is now being hacked about, and seems possessed of a very kind temper. Too small for my liking.

George Wright's Newuainster gelding shapes well over the sticks. He was walked up to the hurdles and jumped like a cat.

Mr A. Budkland has sold Ms yearling colt by Hotchkiss from Katipo to Mr G. JMcKellar. This gentleman bought Stepper to go to India. I presume the colt will also be sent there. This I learn from a Southern paper.

If all goes well with them during the winter, I fully expect to hear of both Havoc and Pulvil being heavily supported for the V.E.C. "Derby long before the day ot the race comes round.

The A.E.C. is out witri programme for North New Zealand Grand National, which comes off on Saturday, June 3. All whom it may concern are referred to the dates and nominations, acceptances, etc., appearing at foot of programme, which will be found in another column.

Several well-known steeplechase horses are going from England to America to take part in the play of ' The Prodigal Daughter.' Among them may be mentioned Roquefort (winner of the Grand National of 1885), Bohemian, Calais, Gazelle, Bedfellow, Columbus and Hopscotch.

' Free Lance ' remarks : In dealing with the next V.R.C. Derby, methinks Matai, although he was defeated the other Saturday afc Maribyrnong by Wilton in the Maiden Plate, will later on have to be reckoned with. This colt, who is by St. Hippo's sire, St Leger, from Kaupo, the dam of that sensational gelding, Mata, has the makings of a real good one, and for his trainer's sake I hope he will justify the opinions formed of him.
