Nathan wore an exceedingly stylish walking costume the other day of shot green, soft wool material, with wavy pink stripe, sleeves and trimmings of pink and green shot silk, hat to match with velvet strings ; Mrs Alfred Nathan looked handsome in a stylish black costume ; Mrs Cunningham, black , skirt, pretty plaid silk blouse Scarborough hat ; Mrs Worsp, handsome dark green , gown, bennet to cprrespond ; Miss Worsp looked nice in neat navy blue dress, and hat; Mrs Coldicutt (nee Miss Hulme) ' looked well in a pretty myrtle-green dress, and hat ; Miss Devore, very stylish dark green costume; Miss Firth,- stylish fawn tweed cloak with long cape, gem hat ; Miss Jessie Mackay looks nice in a dark tweed gown, and neat little hat ; Miss — Hesketh, very pretty fawn tweed costume trimmed with brown, hat to correspond.

The Empire and Restoration style of dress has, after a final struggle, been accepted in Paris, and the best dressmakers are making nothing else. Some very curious effects are produced in the3e gowns. For instance, a dress of pale pink satin, made quite plain en, princsse, had a sort of surplice of very transparent pink and silver gauze, coming from the bust line and reaching straight to the feet, and naturally the figure seen through the filmy veil looked bewitching, while two wing-like draperies of the gauze came from the shoulders. Others have flowing draperieß confined to the bodice by bands of velvet or jewelled gauze. A Marie Louise gown worn was of pink satin, princess shape, a full skirt of yellow gauze coming from under the armpits, a widish pink satin ribbon crossing from the back and which was fastened in a bow with long ends in front on the bust, and again the waist seen through the yellow gauze, back and front, much enhanced the beauty of the figure. With these ball dresses, flowers are out of the question, and a hundred devices for the hair, in gold pins, ribbons, feathers, paste ornaments, etc., are designed. Reticules are also indispensable with these last century gowns.

The graceful clinging curves of the bell skirt are being somewhat supplanted by the full skirt, which measures from four and a half to five and six yards around the bottom.

Slipper buckles, on which real jewels .gleam and glitter are worn by girls lucky enough to afford them. Quaint old ear-

rings make captivating buckles, and are being fished out from the depths of their plush -lined cases to do duty on my lady's slippers.

The empire night-gown is amongst the chief novelties in ladies underwear, and this pretty gown, of which the material is nainsook or fine longcloth is among the favourites in dainty and stylish lingerie. It has a wide ruffle of lace at the top, laid flatly over an exceedingly deep yoke of puffing with lenghtwise rows of insertion, and curved towards the middle. This yoke comes below the bust, and a central fastening has a knot of very narrow ribbon above a band of insertion with edging on each side, and which extends below the yoke to the waist line. The very full sleeves are made high and are drawn in at the wrist by a band of ribbon or insertion above an extremely wide ruffle of Valenciennes, this kind of lace being used in the top ruffle also.
