HUNTLY.

A very pleasant social evening was spent recently at Mr Wallace's residence, music, songs, and dancing forming a most enjoyable programme. The ladies were all becomingly dressed, the host and hostess were exceedingly hospitable, and the visitors were well pleased. We now hold fortnightly dances in Ralph's Hall; they are well patronised, and greatly enjoyed by the young folks. Although the Government have made a levy on the Coal Mining Companies to provide for miners who meet with accidents, etc., the Huntly miners have not yet formed themselves into an association, according to the Act, and they are debarred from receiving benefits as a consequence of their neglect. It is high time they awoke to a sense of their responsibilities, in this matter, if not for their own sakes, for the sake of their wives and families.
