THAMES

"When are Greorge, of the mill, and Mary going to tie the fatal knot ? I thought it was broken oft' long ago. The young- school teacher is doing the devoted to the young lady of Marystreet. How long will it last, Bollo? The long-delayed ball is coming off at last, the 19th being fixed for the event. The Ladies' Calisthenic Class held an open night last Thursday. The public evidently take great interest in the class, as the hall was more than comfortably full. The dumb-bells being the first item, were very creditably gone through by 22 young ladies, none of whom call for special mention, all doing well. A •duet, ' List (o the Convent Bell.=,' by Misses Payne and Koefoed, was very agreeably rendered, after which 25 members fell in for clubs, including Misses Buckland, Lough, Constant, R. Bridson, -Flo. Buckland, and one little dot of about nine years, who I think deserves special mention for the graceful and easy manner in which she swung the clubs. Her name on inquiry I found to be Miss 'Violet Twohill. Miss Nora Bridson. then sang • The Dearest Spot on Earth to Me ' very sweetly, after which the march was gone through by 29 members. Too much praise cannot be given to Mr Daldy McWilliams for his perfect and patient training. The class certainly did him the greatest credit, keeping almost perfect step and holding themselves in quite a military fashion. I understand the colours of the class are blue and white ; some of the ladies wore iheir costumes and looked well, but the effect would be improved if all wear the same. The singing of ' God Save the Queen ' brought the evening to a close.
