The dance at the Kamo schoolroom, last Friday, was a great success, and the ladies who organised it are to be heartily congratulated ; there were about 40 couples present, and everything went merrily along till early morn. The music was supplied by Mr Donelly, accompanied by Mr Malcolm Mclnnes on the piano. A feature of the evening's amusement was a neat little speech made by Mr F. F. Day, thanking the ladies for their kind invitation, and which was responded to by the gentlemen singing ' For they are Jolly Good Fellows,' in right down good style. Mr Bessell, who officiated as M.C., sang a song, and Mr Adair danced the Highland Fling very neatly. The dresses of the ladies were, as usual, very charming and varied, that of Miss Jessie Whitelaw being much admired. The gentlemen talk of having a return dance soon ; they certainly ought to do so. Eliza seemed quite glad to wear the old glove that the school teacher was sportirg so conspicuously a little while ago. What will Jim think of that, we wonder ? Mary M. was apparently very much engrossed with the attention of a certain young fellow named George. Mary, I am afraid you are a flirt, my dear. i Prodigious brought his girl's sister to the dance, as she herself could not come. ' The sister was attended to by both Willie, of the Kauri, and our local medico ; it is hard to say who is favourite. Charley B. looked supremely happy with his darling by bis side, although she does not dance. You must teach her, Charley. Harry, of the 3-Mile 8., was immense ; the way he mashes a certain young lady is a study, and don't you make any mistake about it. D.M. still perseveres in trying to dance ; but, alas, Donny, old boy, you ,will never make much of a fist at it. Wonderful events should always be recorded, and that is why it i-hould be proclaimed to all nations that the owner of the new four-wheel^" turn-out actually shouted for bis passengers the other evening.
