KAIPARA FLATS.

A very nice social was giveu in the school at Kaipara Flats, on July Ist, in connection with the dancing class of that district, which reflected great credit on the committee of management -\lessrd McNicol, Anderson and Hudson. Invitations had been sent to a number of friends in the surrounding districts, but the night being somewhat unfavourable, those from a distance could not avail themselves. However, the room was pretty well packed, notwithstanding, and, as usual, the ladies were in the majority, and certainly were a credit to themselves and the district to which they belong. DanciDg commenced at 8 p.m. Mr Morison acted as M.C., and in his usual jovial and happy style made the proceedings lively, and sustained the spirit of enjoyment throughout the evening. The musio was supplied by Messrs Brott and Anderson, and was fairly good. At 11 30 p.m., refreshments were handed round, which had been provided with a liberal hand, and were of the best quality, to which full justice being done, dancing was again resumed, the company being favoured with songs" at intervals, by Misses Clements and Morison, and Messrs Hudson and J. Taylor. Amongst so much youth and beauty, some little difficulty was experienced as to which of the young ladies should be designated belle, but it was generally conceded that Miss Laura Clements fairly carried off the laurels in that respect, and Mrs Sainsbury amongst the married ladies. At about 3 30 a.m. a verse of ' Auld Lang .Syne' brought the entertainment to a close, when the participants adjourned to their respective homes, having spent a very enjoyable evening, where true sociability and friendly feeling had been a most prominent feature.
