Captain Kohn, of the Guards, will be back from Raratonga in a few ■weeks now. The Mount Eden Eifle Eange has been closed until further orders by Colonel Goring. An artilleryman asks when do the ' A ' Battery people intend electing a second lieutenant ? Ex-Captain Tobin, of the Eoyal Irish Rifles, now figures as a civilian at the Martini Rifle practice. Joe Nutt again put in an appearance on the range last Saturday. He says he is getting tired of shooting. The ' Goldfinch ' men will probably go through their annual course of class firing during their stay in Auckland. The Victoria Eifles selected Sergeant Kearney as tbeir second lieutenant. Mr Kearney is an old volunteer, and iias a happy knack of imparting drill. Mr Steadman, the well-known shot of Whangarei, was in town last week, and availed himself of the opportunity of having some practice at Mt. Eden. ! If a New Zealand team of marksmen is really going across to Australia, it is high time some active steps were taken in Auckland to boom matters. On dit that a certain section of tbe Victoria Rifles acted very shabbily to one or two well-known volunteers who wished to join. Some old members of the corps are so annoyed about it that they talk of resigning in a body. The Ponsonby Navals are still in want of another lieutenant, owing to the resignation of Lieutenant C. C. The Cassel Gold Extracting Company are prepared to issue to mine owners, during the next four months, licenses for the. use of Mac Arthur Forrest patent, on reduced ternis. The Cassell Company are also prepared to teßt trial lots of ores, concentrates and tailings, and to report thereon. -They will take immediate proceedings against anyone infringing the Mac Arthur Forrest patents.
