Football is the sensation. of the hour* and everyone on Saturday night is anxious for the news of the afternoon's matches. So great is the interest, indeed, that the Star and a newly-born football paper called the ' Umpire ' are running neok-and-neok in the competition to furnish the public with the 'earliest and most reliable intelligence.' But, after all, they charge for their editions, and the proprietors of the Obsbrveb, who are nothing if not enterprising, determined to go one better. They relied on the partiality of the Auckland public for a cheap show, and decided to give them an Obsbbvbb Extra,. with the results of the matches, by limelight, and to throw in a series of comic local pictures. That is bound to take, they reckoned ; and they reckoned fairly, 'for free shows are the Auckland hobby.
