MATAKANA.

A grand soiree and concert took place in the Public > Hall. The weather being fine, a large crowd assembled and partook heartily of the good things provided. The song of the evening was given by Mrs Leeds and Mr Braithwaite, entitled ' Money Matters.' A cricket match was played during the day on the Matakana cricket ground, between Warkworth and Matakana, the latter winning by one innings and 22 runs to spare. Our little township can now boast of a grand new piano for the Public Hall, which is now placed in our midst without debt, the credit of which falls to Mrs Leeds, as she obtained it by public subscription, singlehanded. What made the big man up the road show off his fighting on the boy ? Why not take J. Anderson afterwards ? Was he afraid of getting his head punched ?
