Regatta Notes.

In pursuance of a time, honoured eus■•■tom I am once more called upon to make a few comments on the Auckland Begatta, which is to be held on the Waitemata on Thursday next. In doing so I wish to state that I am somewhat in the dark as iiO the probable entries, which have not been received up to the time of writing, so I must crave my'readers' indult genee should I make a 3lip. Despite the prevailing depression, I am pleased to say the committee have met with a fair amount of success, and little fear need be felt at the result of their labours. It is, of course, to be regretted that the Squadron could not be present, as the Begatta will be robbed of a lot of interest ; but the inclusion of several good noveltieß should more than compensate. The decadence -of the Champion Whaleboat Bace is also to be deplored, and the apathetic spirit; may very rightly be ascribed to the unsportsmanlike conduct of the local Bowing Association in withholding permission for ;its members to compete. Notwithstanding the antagonism manifested, the public may confidently look forward to this event with interest, as the crews, though small _in numbei, make up for the deficiency in point of merit. Every arrangement that could possibly be thought of for the comfort of visitors has been attended to, .and the fact of the steam-ship Te Anau having been secured as flagship, should possess untold inducements to the public -.generally. The committee desire me to say that punctuality will be the order of the day, and each event will be despatched according to table, bo as to allow ample time for the steamer making the excursion trip round Tiri at the conclusion of the Begatta. Without further comment I shall now endeavour to give an expectant public my views of the different races. The first race on the programme is that set apart for Scows ; but as verylittle is known of these vessels 1 do not care to hazard an opinion.
