Mr J. W. Carr.

Mr J. W. Garr informs us in his circular that he has been for seven years a member of the Board of Education, that he has attended every meeting, that he is proud of the style of retrenchment practised upon the pupil teaohers (who are not to be paid above nurse-girls, or such people) ; that the administration of the Board during the seven years has been both ' just and economic ;' that he is opposed to any sohemefor regulating salaries ; and he winds up with a request to be re-elected for other three years— seven years evidently not being Jong enough. Of Mr Carr only a few words need be said, as he will not trouble the Board of Education much longer — the country committees and country teachers, mirvus his blue ribbon friends, being now quite sick of his actions on the Board. Mr Carr is not a bigot in religious matters. We have often heard thet he was, but such is not a fact. He is tolerant and liberal-minded. He is also very goodnatured ; but he is an extremist in blue ribbonism, and like all extremists would, if he could, model all men and women upon his narrow, cranky ideal. On the Board Mr Carr is an obstructive to justice in salary matters as well as to the ' higher certificates,' and he works altogether in the interests of the town teachers, or in those of • his friends,' or as Mr Goldie directs him. His circular is his epitaph as a member of the Board of Education.
