BROOKBY.

On Deo. 29th, a social was held at the residence of Mr George Embling, and proved a most enjoyable evening, there being fully twenty couples present. The music was supplied by several of the paities present, on the violin, accordion, &c, and the floor being in good order, the hours of darkness glided rapidly away, and as the sun began to show its rays above the horizon, all joined hands and sang the well-known anthem, ' Auld Lang Syne,' and dispersed to their homes, tired, but all highly delighted with the inexhaustible attentions of the hoßfc and hostess, who were ever ready to see to the wants of everybody present. The duties of M. C. were carried out by Mr Jas. Ballantine, who managed to do so to the satisfaction of all. The dresses worn by the ladies present were worthy of notice, and the young ladies themselves were very much admired by the mashera. The following are the names and dresses worn :— Mrs G.
