HAMILTON.
The Hamilton Light Infantry celebrated the advent of the New Tear by marching to the range and firing for the Champion Belt, Hallenstein Cup, Harker's Medal and innumerable other prizes, both trophies and money. The Hamilton Light Infantry are undoubtedly a credit to the Waikato, and the officei commanding (Captain Reid) may justly be proud of them. During their visits to Auckland they have always been able to sustain their reputation for physique, drill and shooting, against any of Auckland's beat corps, and a glance at their shooting sheet on New Year's Day would convince the most sceptical that their shooting averages would compare favourably with any team in the colonies. The Champion Belt was won by volunteer Pearson, Lieutenant Kirk took charge of the Cup, whilst Harker's Medal found an owner in Sergeant Kelly. Their Brass Band has been re-organised and placed under the conductorship of Bandmaster Haydn Flood. Taking things altogether the future of the Hamilton Volunteers promises to be a brilliant one, both in regard to members, drill and finances.
