The Latest from Wellington.
(By Telegraph.) The Government, finding their l nobbling' negotiations progressing rather slowly, have summoned their supporters to meet here on 19th inst. To help on affairs, they have defcertuiueu upon nominating several gentlemen to the ' Lords.' [Nobbling by ennobling", eh? — Ed J Fitzherbert's resignation is looked upon as a plausible pretext for calling O'Rorke to the Upper House. Another rumour is that Atkinson is the man who will fill Fitzherbert's shoes.' The climate would quickly kill Sir Harry if he went to London, aud he ia felt to be of too low social and financial standing to be made the ambassador of a great colouy. As colonial Speakersgo, he would be a very good one indeed— the Hutchison charges notwithstanding:. Ballance will also summon his followers to meet on the 19th inst. The first trial of strength is likeiy to take place over the Speakership cf the Rouse. Rollesfcon ia the only man who would be accepted by both parties. If he isn't nominated, rest assured Major Steward is next Speaker. Harnlin has no show whatever.
