One of the best jokes that I have heard of for a long time took pace the other night, and it only goes to show how a. person can be taken in, especially one that is fearfully in We. A certain young lady was standing outside a gate in Cobdenstreet, waiting for her beloved to appear. When he came ont, as she thought, she threw her arms round his neck and sfarted scolding and looking Mack at him for being so long cleaning his boots, etc. She even offered to clean them herself nesS time. However, when they got under the lamp at the top of the street, she found to her surprise it was a stranger she was walking with, aiid not her beloved ! She did not wait to say good-bye, nor make another appointment, but vanished in an. instant, like an angel's visit. Not a bad joke either, is it, Harry P She will go to the right gato next time. The young lady swears he was just like her young man, and though she did not before believe in doubles, she is now convinced that his double is in existence. Long Jim has gone to Aratapu, but expects to return at Christmas. He says he is going- in training' for the hot pies, and don't be surprised if you see his name over the door shortly. Nell did not like carrying the baby in Karangahape Boad the other Tuesday night ? You did look nice. Percy was piling on the agony with Emily on Thursday evenIng last. They sa-y it is coming off shortly. Save us a bit of the cake. Charlie says he will be all there at the wedding on Christinas day, but will greatly miss his • copper.' Never mind ; Bill will make a good subst.tute. I hear the masher bootmaker has left his job on account of the • polluting- ' he goo about the gloves and stick.
