Questions by Telephone.
Electioneering by proxy is not a very pleasant oocupation, and Messrs Buttle and Cox, who are doing the trick for Sheoherd Allen, the Bank candidate for Te Aroha, have not a rosy time of it. Their election meeting at Greerton was enlivened by the eccentricities of a Taurangtv solicitor, who continually interrupted the speakers by calling upon them to produce their man. At the conclusion of Mr Cox's address, the Chairman said the deputation would answer any questions put to them. This gave the legal gentleman referred to an opportunity of showing off his wit in bhe following mot : 'Mr Chairman, I've a most important question to ask, but as Mr Allen is ten thouaan' miles away, I'll aend it by telephone.' There ia nothing surprising about thia style of questioning in these days of telephone messages coming from Heaven to Pastor Birch — a far greater distance than ten thousand miles.
