MERCURY BAY.
A concert was held in the Athenaeum Hall on Saturday, Bth. Our concerts of late are winning their way into public favour, as may be seen by the r«pid growth of the audiences. I am not the least surprised to see such good houses, when such talented artiste-) as those whom I am about to mention appear on the stage:— Mrs G. White Miss E. White, Mrs Gow, Messrs Edmonds. Fraser, Oonway, Mounce, b'esley, Buchanan, Sewell, Crocker. Bagstrom, Currie, and Professor Dux. Artie says he might have a show with Ettie, only for that Kuaotunu butcher. Charlie says Wrong will stand no show with Phoebe while Wright is about, but I think the odds are too big — three brothers to one. What say you across the river ? On the 14th inst., the aristocrats held their dance in the Public '■cboolhouse, but it was not quite up to expectations, owing to the M.C. not knowing one figure from another in the sets. Ask Billy was it him or the piano got the invitation. Buck, the aristocrats say your danciner is sulubrious, but the side you put o i is only fit for the working class. Artie should not put his mother to so much inconvenience about white vests when going to a toff dance. Wanted, a nice young man to escort a young lady to the next social. — Apply at Government House. Fred should' not speak so loud when saying good night to his dearest. What takes our little sch-01-teocher to the slaughter house so of tea ? The governess emphatically denies the paragraph in the Observer of the 15th concerning her, as on no occasion has she refused the company present, after getting an invit'tion. Our s-torekeeper looked <iuite frisky escorting five ladies on the Buffalo. Where was Pat ? Ettie still Cleaves to the heart she love 3. Who was the young lady that asktd the apprenice if he know Billy?
